Whats Up With Nintendo?

I have been a Nintendo fan since I got my hands on a NES back in the 80s. I have gotten every console they released since then. I am a huge fan of the Legend of Zelda series as well. But I found it interesting to hear that in March of 2017 Nintendo is going to release another console called Nintendo NX (code name). Which is to be the successor of the Wii U. I don't know how I feel about this announcement. I find it strange for them to release a major console in March of all months. Normally these things are released in November, to maximize the holiday sales. Why release the Wii U's successor in March? Only thing I can think of is Nintendo is desperate to sell something new to gain profits since 2016 has been loss for them. I do know that Nintendo has said it will sell the NX at a profit. Which means it may not be all that powerful compared to the Wii U, Xbox One, and PS4. Or the NX could be something Nintendo wants to get out because of Sony and Microsoft selling a tweaked powered-up version of their consoles. This news has got me worried. I only say that cause now the new Zelda game has been pushed to 2017 to also come out on the NX next year. It could mean that if the NX is a big failure like the Wii U, then Nintendo might be jumping ship in the console wars. I hope they don't. If that happens, then we may only be able to play Nintendo games on hand held systems (since those have sold the best for Nintendo). In my later years I have found the hand held systems to be less appealing. I got rid of my 3DS cause it just sat there and collected dust. I found the 3D aspect of the system to be just a gimmick and holding the unit for a long time was uncomfortable to me. So, I am not a fan of their GameBoy systems anymore. I want to play the new Legend of Zelda games on a console, that I can hook up to my TV.

I have heard some rumors that the NX could be cartridge based. But if that was true, it would only be a disaster for Nintendo, as cartridges are far more costly to produce then CD/DVD/Blu-Ray. Though there are rumors saying that the NX could be a hybrid of home and portable console. Which in portable, the cartridges would make sense. These of course are all rumors, and we will most likely not hear about the official details of the NX till later this year. As Nintendo has said it will not be featured at E3 this year. I am both worried and excited about the NX. I just hope it will end up being a success for Nintendo, so I can continue to play Zelda games on a home console made by Nintendo. Well, we will have to find out what the House of Mario has in store for us later this year.
